Covert Hypnosis is a form of mind manipulation also known as conversational hypnosis or sleight of mouth. The whole point is to communicate with someone’s unconscious mind without that particular person taking notice.
The aim is to alter a person’s subconscious behavior so they believe that they’ve changed their mind at their own free will.
This method of hypnosis is usually achieved through what seems to be a regular everyday conversation.
It takes a lot of practice to successfully pull it off, and when you do, the target will be completely unaware that they’ve been under hypnosis. They won’t even notice that anything strange has happened to them.
Those who know how to properly implement the techniques of covert hypnosis have used it to their advantage. Seducing the opposite sex, increasing sales and changing people’s decisions are just a few things that is common.
It’s a truly powerful way of mind control used by numerous members of society’s upper echelon including politicians, media moguls and serial entrepreneurs.
Is Covert Hypnosis Good or Evil?
That’s a question that really depends on the person performing the hypnotism. Just imagine the destruction it could cause being in the wrong hands. You don’t have to look any further than Adolf Hitler, who implemented covert hypnosis in many of his speeches, which allowed him to affect the minds of an entire nation.
That’s really the worst case scenario and Hitler as we know, had evil motives regardless of what techniques he did or did not use.
It has been used by petty criminals to steal money and do other bad deeds. However, they are very few and far between. Generally, most people who want to learn how to do covert hypnosis just want to impress family and friends, build a successful career and have a thriving love life.
On the other hand, covert hypnosis has given inspiration to many would-be entertainers. It’s an art form that’s allowed hypnotists such as Derren Brown and Marc Savard to provide comedy and thought provoking shows which has captivated the general public.
The most important thing to keep in mind if you were to learn this, is to have self-respect and respect for others.
How Covert Hypnosis Works
Getting covert hypnosis to work is really quite straightforward. It can be broken down into three stages.
1. Gain Rapport with the Listener – This is important to build a connection of trust and confidence. It’s vital that the subject has no idea of the manipulation.
2. Turn Off the Critical Point of the Mind – Using carefully placed words, you can immediately shut off the listener’s mind which in turn, will open their imagination for them to easily follow your suggestions.
3. Make Strong Hypnotic Commands – Once you’ve bypassed the listener’s critical mind, you can then describe to your listener what you want them to do.
It seems simple and it can be, but the effectiveness of covert hypnosis all depends on how in-depth your rapport is with your listener and how well you communicate with them.
Masters of Covert Hypnosis
It was Dr Milton Erickson who was really one of the pioneers of indirect hypnosis, similar to covert hypnosis.
However, since then, many hypnotists who were originally influenced by Erickson’s work in the field, took his techniques to another level.
One of them being Igor Ledchowski, who actually trained under Ericksonian therapists who were trained directly by Dr Erickson himself.
Professional stage hypnotists and entertainers such as Marc Savard and Derren Brown also implement covert hypnosis very effectively as seen in their shows and TV programmes.
All you have to do is watch them in action and you’ll see how well and subtly they can communicate with and manipulate someone’s mind.
